The inspiration for Tabtime was conceived in 1988 after a visit to my GP. At that time, I was the Chief Executive of my own business in the UK. The company had 25 employees and a turnover of £2.5 million. Obviously, I was quite a busy man.

In 1988, I developed a minor but troublesome ailment that wouldn't go away. My GP, who was also an old friend, prescribed a course of antibiotic tablets and I was told to take them 4 times per day at regular intervals.

I complained that not only would I probably not remember to take the tablets at the correct times I would almost certainly forget to take them altogether! My GP shook his head ruefully, and said that this was his biggest problem and if somebody could come up with an idea that would remind all of his patients and the patients of every other GP in the country to take their tablets at the right time, every doctor would all be eternally grateful! And so, I began working on the idea of Tabtime.

Through my own experience I knew that any pill, tablet or medication reminder would have to be compact, efficient, reliable and economical, but probably most importantly, it would have to be very easy to operate. The Tabtime concept followed this reasoning. Very simply, Tabtime is a pocket or purse sized pillbox, with both audio and visual alarms for the hard of hearing or for those quieter moments in the library, church, cinema etc to remind the carrier that it is time to take their medication. It is easy to programme and will remember all of your settings even when changing the battery. Of course, should your medication or dosage rate be changed, Tabtime can easily be re-programmed at any time!

For several years, I contacted various electronic firms in the UK by phone & fax asking if they could make me a credit card sized LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) unit, with an audio and flashing LED (Light Emitting Diode) alarm system. No one seemed interested, and eventually, I was forced to shelve the idea. but in 1992, I unearthed the Tabtime idea again, but this time, I had the help of the Internet!

Through the Internet, in January 2000, I found a helpful and reliable electronics firm in Hong Kong who assured me that they could design & supply a reliable LCD and so, we went to work. For more than 2 years, we refined the idea, and eventually came up with the present specification.
